Definition
The term Aromatherapy was first coined in 1928 by French chemist René-Maurice Gattefossé. It means the use of aromatics i.e. aromatic plants from which essential oils are extracted.
What is an Essential Oil?
An essential oil is a very concentrated liquid extract obtained after steam distillation of an aromatic plant.
What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils for the improvement of physical and mental health by strengthening the body's self-healing. It is a natural method based on the activity of the biochemical molecules of essential oils.
What is Scientific Aromatherapy?
The Scientific Aromatherapy or Aromatology is the science which study Essential Oils and resorts to a rigorous methodology which is based on scientific data confirmed by laboratory.
The close connection which links the chemical structure of an essential oil with its activities constitutes the base of aromatology. The quality standards of essential oils must therefore be established according to their impact on the chemical composition.
One of the quality standards of an essential oil is the care taken to harvesting.
