Minor ailments...and effective remedies
Essential oils provide a ready source of assistance in relieving, calming, healing and revitalising....in brief, they are a great help in the fight against the minor health problems of everyday life.
They contribute to our well-being by means of simple and practical applications.
Since essential oils have a remarkable affinity for the skin, local friction rubs or massages are the preferred methods used with these "household" remedies.
For ease of use, the essential oils offered are widely used, non-toxic and are suitable for everyone.
Bruises (haematoma)
Immediately apply a few drops of Italian Helichrysum in its pure form.
Repeat the application several times.
You can later dilute 2-3 drops of Helichrysum oil in a dab of cream of Arnica (an excellent plant to use for bumps and bruises.)
Headaches
Peppermint and true lavender will ease tension and relieve pain.
Place two drops of each essential oil on the forehead and on the temples as well as on the upper neck.
Avoid applying essential oils too close to the eyes, as the strongly aromatic peppermint could cause smarting.
For children it is better to use only true lavender.
Slight burns
Apply pure essential oil of true lavender, lavandin or spike lavender directly.
Most "lavenders" have a calming and healing effect.
After initial application it is possible to improve the effectiveness of essential oils:
Essential oils are readily diluted in various media and add significantly to their curative properties.
This also results in easier application on the skin.
- Honey
- Lipid extract (po) of calundula, St. John's wort
- Aloe vera etc.
have excellent healing, calming and/or antiseptic properties.
One or the other may be employed in combination with the essential oil of spike lavender.
Use: place a small amount of the chosen medium in the palm of the hand, add 4-5 drops of essential oil of spike lavender to dilute it and apply to the burn.
Hiccups
Inhale essential oil of tarragon deeply several times (this is an excellent anti-spasmodic).
